The destination is north toward upstate New York, but pockmarked highways demand my attention before the smooth back-road pavement arrives. The surprisingly quick 2016 Audi A6 3.0T with all-wheel drive hits 60 in 4.7 seconds but carries a much higher base price than the Q70L 3.7. Also praiseworthy are the sport model’s brakes—four-piston front and two-piston rear calipers grabbing huge 14-inch front and 13.8-inch rear discs—which haul the Q70 down from speed quickly with a beautifully linear pedal feel. With the Q70, Infiniti has demonstrated a willingness to take action on past criticisms and make improvements. How Much?The Infiniti Q70 starts at $49,850 for the 3.7 trim that comes with a 330-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine and $52,000 for the all-wheel-drive version. The Q70 should have this feature as well. The city fades into the rear-view mirror as I crawl in traffic off the island and into New Jersey. Inexplicably, the Q70 doesn't have the Infiniti InTouch infotainment system, which means it also doesn't have any type of cloud-connected infotainment or apps. On the way out of Manhattan we passed four accidents. That one gets 416 horsepower on an intelligent (read: self-adjusting and anticipatory) all wheel drive; it has a seven-speed automatic transmission that gets 16 miles to the gallon in the city and 23 on the highway. I also enjoy the fact that the car hasn’t sold in high numbers, which makes mine stand out even more.
