Britannia Hospital clearly attempts to recapture the anarchic bite of director Lindsay Anderson's previous satires Lindsay Anderson and Lindsay Anderson, but fails to achieve the same combination of intelligent political critique, comic lunacy, and skillful filmmaking.

Everybody in the hospital, from the cooks who refuse to cook, to the painters who couldn't care less to get their job done, to an African cannibalistic dictator (à la Idi Amin Dada Oumee) whom demonstrators want expelled from the hospital and tried, will contribute to making Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth I's visit (and Mick Travis's life) a true nightmare. Revue de presse | There are two separate storylines that run parallel to each other: one follows the arrival of Queen Elizabeth II to Britannia Hospital, a supposedly outstanding symbol of the health system in the UK in the 80s; the other follows Mick Travis, an investigating documenter who is attempting to infiltrate the secured laboratory next to the hospital, all to expose the laboratory and hospital’s strange practices. Britannia Hospital is a modern hospital located in the prestigious Lekki Peninsula Phase-1. Malcolm McDowell plays the "monster-like" character, having been stitched together from a variety of races. The last in the so-called ‘Mick Travis’ trilogy, Britannia Hospital by the ever-so-talented Lindsay Anderson is visually appealing in the imagery department, but wildly bonkers in the narrative one. This is the shortest and least effective of Anderson’s trilogy of British imperial decline.
